Beginners' Shiai Seminar

Beginners' Shiai Seminar is held around the middle of each year as a chance for beginners to be introduced to shiai (competition). Anyone who has not competed before may enter, including those who may have already graded. The shiai will attempt to simulate a real competition, lead by the head judge who may stop the match at any time to explain things.

The higher grades may have a chance to learn more advanced things such as shinpan-ing.

Subjects to cover include:
o Rei - The etiquette to enter/leave the shiai-jo (area) and start/stop the match properly
o Shinpan commands - Specific commands that the shinpan (judge) calls
o Yuko datotsu - How to make a proper scoring cut
o Shiai rules - Things you aren't allowed to do and hansoku (penalties)

The last shiai seminar was held on Sunday, 15 August 2010 at Budokan Academy, Canning Vale.
